Ways To Find Hope

Ways to Find Hope

In addiction recovery, Hope becomes a foundation that drives us to find a better way and heal from our past. It also keeps us stronger when we may encounter challenges. Hope can also give us a sense of peace, knowing that a better tomorrow does exist. Here are a few ways that may help you find hope during a time of despair:

Listen to Stories of Hope:

Stories can inspire us and help us find strategies for finding hope when we are struggling. There are many sources for finding stories of hope, such as social media (Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram), podcasts, and blogs.

Lean on a high power:

Many people find hope by reaching for a higher power. This could be through spirituality, religion, or philosophy. Believing in a higher power is Step 2 in the 12-step process. “Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity” Simply put, it asks you to consider the possibility that there’s some power greater than yourself that can guide you towards a better life.

Positive Affirmations:

Repetition of positive affirmations can lead us to believe, and belief is at the heart of hope. Affirmations build belief, confidence, and a drive for change.

Create a Gratitude List:

Writing down what we are thankful for can make us more optimistic because we choose to see more positivity in our lives, giving less power to the negative. Positive aspects in our lives may be floating around in our subconscious; writing them down makes them more concrete and tangible.

Recovery is never a simple process. Without hope, no one can persevere and fight for very long. A key component for our recovery is hope. Finding purpose and optimism and having a well-thought-out plan can help us progress in our journey.
